Hamamatsu photonics new 16 Channel Multi-Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC) Modules

Hamamatsu Photonics introduce a brand new range of MPPC detector modules, which complement and expand on the already popular existing range. The new modules are designed to allow simple evaluation of large area MPPC detectors.

The S11834-3388DF uses a 64 channel array of 3mm x 3mm discrete detectors, giving a very large total effective area of 576 mm2. The S11834-3388DF is supplied in an FPC package, uniquely designed to be non-magnetic, to allow use of the array in high magnetic field environments.

The C11206-0404FB uses a 16 channel monolithic MPPC array with 3mm x 3mm channels, giving a total effective area of 144 mm2, allowing for maximum position resolution with minimum dead space. The C11206-0404FB includes an amplifier module connected via an FPC. This module includes a HV supply, temperature control circuit and dedicated ASIC (including amplifier and DAC). This makes the evaluation of the 16 channel MPPC very simple.

Similar to the C11206-0404FB the C11206-0808FA includes a HV supply, temperature control circuit and dedicated ASIC (including amplifier and DAC). However, the C11206-0808FA uses a 64 channel MPPC array with 3mm x 3mm discrete detectors, giving a total effective area of 576 mm2.

All of the aforementioned detectors are available with 3600 pixels/channel and a small 50µm pitch. Each pixel contains a quenching resistor so that simultaneous photon events can be counted separately and with a high degree of accuracy. The devices feature a typical gain value 7.5x105. The new detectors also feature high photon detection efficiency in the UV and blue regions of the spectrum, with peak sensitivity at 400 nm, making them ideal for scintillator readout. Additionally, the MPPC is insensitive to magnetic fields making it an ideal candidate for applications with more demanding environments.

These versatile new modules are ideal for a variety of applications, including TOF-PET, flow cytometry and astrophysics.
