bioseparations use small volumes

Available from Bio-Nobile Oy, the PickPen transfer tool spearheads a new approach to magnetic particle separation.

Instead of immobilising the magnetic particles and then removing surrounding liquid, PickPen is used to lift the particles directly out of the liquid. The particles can thus be moved rapidly and effortlessly from one stage of an experiment to the next.

The approach has wide potential, but especially relevant in purification of nucleic acids and proteins. Bio-Nobile supports these applications with reagents, chemistries and reagent packs.

PickPen provides greater experimental flexibility. Users may choose vessels and formats to suit their work. It is not necessary to use only one vessel format throughout a procedure. PickPen is also more sparing in its use of sample material. Effective separations have been demonstrated using sample volumes below 10mL. In addition, because sample integrity is not affected, several different separations may be performed using the same sample. A distinct benefit when working with long-stranded DNA samples, the method is very gentle, so shearing is minimised.

PickPen is composed of a retractable magnet protected by a disposable silicone rubber tip. The same tip can be used throughout the different steps in the preparation of a sample, before being discarded. u
