High efficiency gas filter sleeves

Porvair Filtration Group Polypropylene Gas Filter (PPGF) sleeves are constructed using a proprietary binder free, polypropylene fibre filter media structure that provides a highly permeable matrix with a low resistance to the flow of gas.

The filtration efficiency of the PPGF sleeves has been extensively tested and confirmed to be fully compliant with the requirements of T-SP-E-13.  This standard requires a gas filter to achieve 95 per cent efficiency at the required particle size stated. The PPGF material has a gravimetric efficiency of 99.95 per cent when tested over a size range of 0.75 to 10 micron.

PPFG filter sleeves are manufactured in a seamless circular method using a mandrill former, upon which the needling is performed. This process enables a filter media with a high void fraction (approximately 75 per cent) to be produced, which provides the benefit of a high relative dirt capacity. The material has an ability to enhance filtration as it blocks through its compressive nature, ensuring that as it nears its end of life condition (determined through differential pressure) the material closes up and strengthens to prevent breakthrough of the retained solids.

The use of polypropylene in Porvair PPFG sleeves provides a material with an inherently high resistance to chemicals, a broad thermal operating range and the ability to resist mechanical fatigue. Polypropylene has a relatively low surface energy (approximately 30mN/m) and therefore has a tendency towards hydrophobicity. This enables it to repel water that may be present in droplet forms in gas flows. The material is regarded as recyclable and therefore poses a minimal environmental risk when this is a consideration.
