Thermo Fisher Scientific releases Krios 5 Cryo-TEM microscope

Enhanced optics and AI-enabled automation help the study of molecular structures.

Life science company Thermo Fisher Scientific has released the Krios 5 Cryo-Transmission electron microscope (TEM).

The microscope offers enhanced optics and AI-enabled automation to study molecular structures and interactions with more detail.

“By delivering automation and throughput, we are empowering researchers and the pharmaceutical industry to unlock new insights and fight diseases better than ever before,” said Thermo Fisher vice president and general manager of life sciences for materials and structural analysis Trisha Rice.

Aimed to enhance single particle analysis (SPA) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), the Krios 5 microscope allows scientists gain atomic-level insights that reveal how proteins work. It does so by enabling 3D visualisation of proteins and their interactions and dynamics within the biological cell.

AI-powered experimental setup and upgraded data acquisition enhance efficiency and throughput.

The microscope’s vacuum capsule transfer helps prevent sample contamination, assisting with the pioneering of new treatments and the advancement of drug discovery.

Energy consumption is minimised with the microscope’s low-power stand-by mode with rapid wake-up capabilities.

Earlier this month, Thermo Fisher began a partnership with CZ Imaging to develop human cell visualisation technologies.
