Research and biotech firm Merck has launched the first range of bio-based HPLC solvents, offering laboratories a more sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-fuel-based solvents without compromising analytical performance.
Made using renewable feedstocks, the new portfolio includes high-purity acetonitrile, methanol and ethanol for HPLC and LC-MS applications.
These solvents deliver an average 25.9% lower CO₂e impact compared with equivalent fossil-fuel-based products, helping laboratories reduce product-related greenhouse gas emissions and work towards their sustainability targets.
Designed as drop-in replacements for conventional HPLC solvents, Merck’s bio-based alternatives are compatible with established HPLC and LC-MS methods and instrumentation. This means laboratories can introduce more sustainable solvents into existing workflows without the need to redevelop analytical methods.
