Spinning disk microscopy capabilities to expand

CrestOptics and Leica Microsystems have collaborated to ensure high resolution imaging of large 3D samples

Microscopy solutions manufacturer CrestOptics has partnered with microscope manufacturer Leica Microsystems to expand the capabilities of spinning disk microscopy.

Leica Microsystems will offer CrestOptics’ Cicero spinning disk unit within its Thunder Imager Cell Spinning Disk system (Thunder).

Launched last year, Cicero provides a highly compact and affordable option for powerful imaging applications with the aim of making high-end imaging accessible to the wider scientific community.

With Cicero, users can transition between wide field and confocal imaging as needed. This allows users to capture fast cellular events such as chromosome segregation and organelle trafficking.

This level of flexibility is also useful for those working with 3D structures and large cell monolayers.

This is the first time that customers in the spinning disk market can use Leica Microsystems’ imaging technologies.

Leica Microsystems’ Thunder will bring several useful technologies into the partnership, such as its computational clearing technology and the DMi8 microscope.

Its automated sample finder allows users to experience quick, focused overviews, while its adaptive immersion technology can easily switch between low magnification dry overview and water high-resolution views.

Thunder can optimise objective settings in real-time, making it simple to obtain precise, reproducible data in 3D live cell imaging.

“By partnering with Leica Microsystems, we are allowing customers to leverage the benefits of these technologies in parallel with Cicero’s confocal imaging capabilities for high resolution imaging of large, often challenging, 3D samples,” said Renato Giacobbo Scavo, the CEO of CrestOptics.

The combination of Leica Microsystems’ and CrestOptics’ technology offers a new level of precision that streamlines the data generation process.

Thunder is being launched at Neuroscience 2024 in Chicago 5th to 9th October. A live demonstration is taking place at booth 965.
