Single cell gene expression automated

This solution is useful for laboratories managing large volumes of single cell samples

Biotechnology company 10x Genomics has partnered with biomedical company Beckman Coulter Life Sciences to launch a solution to automate single cell gene expression workflows.

“As researchers continue to scale their single cell work, they’re looking for ways to streamline workflows with greater speed, accuracy and consistency,” said 10x Genomics’ founding scientist and chief technology officer Michael Schnall-Levin.

“We’re excited about offering customers new automation solutions to accelerate their scientific discoveries.”

The solution comprises an automation-friendly library preparation kit from 10x Genomics and an optimised method from Beckman Coulter to allow greater throughput and reduce hands-on time for large-scale single cell gene expression studies.

It follows Chromium GEM-X Universal three and five inch cell partitioning and barcoding steps to allow high-throughput gene expression library preparation on the Biomek i7 Hybrid Workstation from Beckman Coulter.

The solution is useful for laboratories managing large volumes of single cell samples. It can save operators nearly 7.5 hours of manual work with up to 96 samples per run while maintaining the quality of manual workflows.

“Delivering sustainable and customisable solutions that expedite time to market is critical to advance research and enable breakthrough discoveries,” said Ewan Grant, Beckman Coulters’ senior director of the biotech workflow solutions business unit.

“This innovation provides customers with a high-throughput solution to accelerate answers in the growing single cell segment, while decreasing the potential for errors. This is a major step forward in reducing time and we look forward to seeing what customers are able to achieve.”
