Technological improvements:
- The LCMS-8065XE features StreamFocus Ionisation Technology, a low-dispersion nebuliser nozzle that reduces liquid droplet dispersion while maximising ion intake efficiency.
- The enhanced IonFocus unit utilises a focusing electrode to guide ions into the intake port while excluding neutral matrix components to maintain sensitivity when the ion spray is further from the intake port.
- The UFsweeper IV collision cell features a larger inlet lens diameter and an increased number of lenses to enhance ion throughput, ion transmission, and sensitivity and quantitative precision.
Analytical performance
The LCMS-8065XE has sub-ng/L detection limits for PFAS compounds in drinking water through direct injection. In comparison to previous-generation instruments, the new system delivers 3-48 times the sensitivity while maintaining stability, with over 85% of the initial response retained after over 10,000 consecutive injections of complex wastewater samples, and RSD <7%.
The instrument utilises Shimadzu's Ultra Fast Mass Spectrometry (UFMS) technology suite, which features 5ms positive/negative ion switching with no signal loss, MRM acquisition up to 555 channels/s, scanning up to 30,000 u/s with maximum ion transmittance, and UF-Qarray II and UF-Len II ion guides.
