Nouryon expands chromatography media facility

The expansion accommodates a rising demand for peptide-based drugs in the GLP-1 receptor agonist class

Speciality chemicals company Nouryon has expanded its Kromasil chromatography media manufacturing facility in Bohus, Sweden.

The expansion aims to double facility capacity to accommodate the growing demand for peptide-based drugs in the GLP-1 receptor agonist class.

“The rapidly growing demand for peptide-based drugs, driven by the rising prevalence of diabetes and obesity, requires a robust and reliable supply chain to ensure that patients around the world have access to the medications they need to lead healthier lives,” said Nouryon president Larry Ryan.

“Our significant investment in the expansion of our Bohus Kromasil chromatography media facility is aligned with our strategy to foster organic growth in our consumer and life sciences segment.”

Kromasil chromatography media was launched in 2023 for the HPLC purification of peptide-based pharmaceuticals.

Nouryon’s Bohus site is also the product site for silica sol, a raw material used in Kromasil chromatography media.

Construction on the facility’s expansion will begin early this year, with the start of production expected in early 2027.
