The solution allows researchers to assess mitochondrial respiration
Software company Agilent Technologies has recently unveiled its Mito-rOCR Assay Kit.
The Mito-rOCR assay measures cells’ relative oxygen consumption rate (rOCR), enabling sensitive detection of changes in mitochondrial function.
“[Customers] told us they needed an easy-to-use assay that works with various fluorescence plate readers. The Mito-rOCR Assay Kit delivers this with a robust assay that supports multiplexing,” said Agilent Cell Analysis division’s associate vice president of marketing Chris Braun.
The solution allows researchers to assess mitochondrial respiration in their cell physiology and disease pathology studies. This is useful because mitochondria are vital to energy production processes that drive cellular activity and many diseases and conditions are linked to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Examining rOCR offers insights into mitochondrial health and performance, with compounds reconstituted directly in the assay medium, eliminating the need for additional solvents.
The reagent remains outside the cells to prevent interference with cellular processes and can be removed to allow further downstream analyses. This cloud-based software streamlines the processes of importing data, linearising signals, calculating slopes and generating data tables and charts.
“This assay democratises the measurement of relative oxygen consumption rate in live cells, enabling more researchers to study cellular respiration and related biological processes,” added Braun.
The assay can also be used with a variety of compatible fluorescent plate readers and multimode imagers.
