Quotient Sciences and Centillion have developed a method for end-to-end RNA manufacture
Biotechnology company Centillion and drug development accelerator Quotient Sciences have installed the first ever Biofoundry-in-a-box (BiaB), offering end-to-end RNA manufacture.
BiaB is a modular, integrated and automated RNA micro-factory, which enables production of various RNA-based produces such as messenger RNA (mRNA) and self-amplifying RNA.
“The BiaB is a significant advancement in RNA manufacturing,” said Centillion CEO professor Harris Makatsoris. “The BiaB enables our mission of a robust response to unmet clinical needs for everyone, everywhere.”
The technology provides continuous flow-based manufacture and encapsulation of RNA. It has now been installed at Quotient Sciences' Alnwick site after being delivered there in July.
BiaB has the capacity for up to 1 million doses from the same machine in 24 hours, helping to reduce the time it takes to bring RNA therapies to market with more flexibility and a smaller footprint.
Large quantities of RNA drug substance can be split and encapsulated in portions to create a series of RNA-LNPs for pre-clinical or clinical evaluation.

Quotient Sciences is the first CDMO to install and qualify the GMP BiaB.
This year, Quotient Sciences has been working on several projects to bring therapies and treatments to the market more quickly, including its support of trials for the world’s first long-acting malaria injection.
