The new InGaAs APD is an advancement in miniaturised sensor technology
Hamamatsu Photonics has released the G15978-0020P, a new InGaAs photodiode (InGaAs APD) representing a development in miniaturised sensor technology.
Created for accurate distance measurement and low-light level detection applications, this device is capable of meeting the needs of Research and Development professionals, engineers, industrial applications, and OEM customers.
The G15978-0020P has a surface-mount type COB package, making it smaller than the previously available metal package type, G14858-0020AA. The G15978-0020P’s size is suitable for integration into compact and mobile equipment, fostering advances in various modern applications, and its improved sensitivity is ideal for touchless displays, automatic faucets, and free space communications.
Key features include:
- Dimensions of 1.6mm × 0.8mm × 0.7mm
- Exceptional performance with low dark current, max 50nA
- Terminal capacitance (typ.) 2.0pF
- Peak sensitivity wavelength (typ.) 1550nm and photosensitivity (typ.) 0.8A/W
- Compatible with lead-free reflow soldering
The G15978-0020P is built with high-quality materials capable of withstanding daily wear and tear to ensure long-term performance. The product is also aligned with sustainability practices, avoiding the use of harmful materials in its composition and aiding with adherence to RoHS directives.
Luigi Ghezzi, technical marketing engineer at Hamamatsu Photonics, Europe, said, “We are excited to introduce G15978-0020P to the market. This product not only reflects our commitment to innovation and quality but also addresses the evolving needs of our customers towards component miniaturisation for precise mobile applications.”
