Thermo Fisher launches two microscopes

The Scio 3 FIB-SEM (Scios 3) is a focused ion beam (FIB) scanning electron microscope with automation to improve site-specific quality control.

 “The current pace of the development of new materials and their increasing complexity poses significant challenges, and Scios 3 addresses those challenges head-on with advancements designed to serve both academia and industry,” said Thermo Fisher VP and GM of materials science David Wall.

The Scios 3 can also help to increase laboratory productivity with enhanced lamella preparation, due to advances in FIB column performance.

The Talos 12 TEM is the result of evolving Thermo Fisher’s Talos transmission electronic microscope (TEM) design. It helps to make sample analysis more accessible for biological research, pathology and drug development by lowering the skill level requirements of users.

“We’re pleased to introduce Talos 12 at M&M this year to bring transmission electron microscopy to more researchers. A wide array of laboratories can now benefit from this adaptable 120kV instrument,” said Thermo Fisher VP and GM of life sciences. 

“Not only does the reduced footprint and next-generation enclosure fit into more lab spaces, but the streamlined workflows – from routine imaging of cells and tissues to AI-assisted sample characterization to cryo-EM – enable the user-friendly Talos 12 to support remote operation for collaboration regardless of location.”

The Talos 12 TEM can be configured as a conventional system for routine TEM imaging of cells and tissues, as an advanced system for sample characterisation with different scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) detectors, or as an entry-level cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) platform.

Both Thermo Fisher microscopes were introduced at Microscopy & Microanalysis (M&M) in Salt Lake City, Utah at the end of July.
