The SI-VT2 Velocity Trap adjusts image triggering in real time to account for variation in velocity
The SI-VT2 Velocity Trap from Specialised Imaging automatically adjusts image triggering in real time to reliably capture fast events with its ultra-high-speed cameras.
Because the velocity of a projectile can vary, the time it takes to hit the target also changes.
This does not give a camera much time to adjust to the faster or slower sequence of events. A 5% variation in velocity can be enough for a camera to miss capturing the event all together.
The SI-VT2 however, accounts for variations in projectile velocity, ensuring that image triggering adjusts in real time.
The technology’s external triggers measure a projectile’s velocity and outputs a trigger signal to a camera or data capture unit. The SI-VT2 performs measurements at capture rates up to 3,330 measurements per second.
A built-in velocity chronograph enables accurate triggering. The velocity trap feature reduces the likelihood of missing fast events, such as the cracking of a ceramic plate or back face deformation of a carbon fibre panel when hit by a projectile of variable velocity.
Earlier this year, Specialised Imaging released a double shot multichannel framing camera, the SIMD32, which can take up to 32 images without creating shading or parallax at up to one billion frames per second.
University of Dresden researchers also chose Specialised Imaging’s Kirana ultra-high speed video camera in May to investigate the behaviour of concrete when subjected to high impact loading.
