alkali borate fusion fluxes

Chemical analysis of refractory materials, such as ores, slags and minerals is often problematic and generally time consuming.

Chemical analysis of refractory materials, such as ores, slags and minerals is often problematic and generally time consuming.

Moreover, the preparation of solution samples is difficult, as these materials are resistant to acid attack.

Fusion with a molten alkali metal borate flux, provides a rapid and simple means of dissolving chemically stable materials to yield glass-like, solid solutions. Samples of a wide variety of materials may thus, be prepared in a simple manner for analysis by instrumental or chemical techniques.

Analytical fluxes offer the benefits of speed and analytical precision. Alfa Aesar supplies alkali borate fusion fluxes, ranging from the conventional Spectroflux 100, a pure

100 per cent lithium tetraborate, to the more elaborate fusion fluxes, like Spectroflux 108, a complex composition of lithium tetraborate, lanthanum oxide and sodium nitrate.
