Maintaining conductivity in cells

Deposits on the electrode surface of a 2-pole cell have a similar effect to polarisation errors, ie the conductivity reading is lower than usual. These effects can also be prevented with a 4-pole conductivity cell.

In the event of deposits on the cell, dipping the cell in a solution such as Radiometer Analytical’s RENOVOoN, Normal Cleaning Solution for approximately 1 hour is recommended. The cell should then be rinsed with distilled water.

Before storage, the cell should be rinsed carefully in deionised water.

Cells can be kept in deionised water for a short time but for longer periods they can also be stored dry. After long-term storage, it is advisable to condition the cell for 8 hours in deionised water.

Platinised cells should be handled with the greatest of care.

The black platinum layer of the platinised cells should not be touched.

To rinse the platinised cells, it is recommended to dip the cell several times in a beaker of demineralised water.
