The research aims to combat autoimmune and solid tumour diseases
Life science companies Xcell Biosciences and Thermo Fisher Scientific have partnered in a joint research collaboration to advance regulatory T cells (Tregs) and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) that combat autoimmune and solid tumour diseases.
The joint research aims to develop new methodologies to enhance the efficacy of Tregs and TILs in therapeutic applications.
“This partnership will enable us to develop more effective treatments for patients in need,” said Xcell Biosciences chief technology officer Shannon Eaker.
The collaboration will leverage Xcell Biosciences’ Avatar platform, an incubator designed specifically for the cultivation of primary human cells. Thermo Fisher’s Gibco CTS Detachable Dynabeads, a type of magnetic bead used for cell isolation and activation, will also be used.
Research goals include streamlining workflows and improving scalability and reproducibility in cell therapy manufacturing to make treatments more accessible to patients.
“We are confident that this collaboration will significantly shorten and enhance the manufacturing workflow for cell therapies in this space, ultimately helping our customers make the world a healthier place, said Thermo Fisher Scientific senior director of R&D Andy Campbell.
Solid tumours represent about 90% of adult cancers and autoimmune diseases are increasing around the world, so this research collaboration targets a crucial area for improving global health.
