World Glaucoma Congress

Globally, glaucoma cases continue to rise. As of 2010, there are 44.7 million people in the world with open angle glaucoma. By 2020, this is projected to increase to 58.6 million worldwide and 3.4 million in the United States alone. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

The disease affects about two per cent of the world’s population and can lead to blindness. Existing treatments have serious side effects or other problems such as compliance. There have been no new therapies in the last decade.

EyeTechCare has developed a non-invasive approach based on ultrasound that takes just two minutes. In trials, HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) has so far proved to be safe, effective and painless. This procedure is also automated, reproducible and fast.

During the 5th World Glaucoma Congress in Vancouver http://www.globalaigs.org/WGC/WGC2013/index.php July 17-20, EyeTechCare will hold a symposium to discuss the latest developments in this new approach: “UC3: A Progress Report”.
