Isolation of E. coli STEC strains

Lab M has launched Captivate O45, the latest addition to the company’s Captivate range of immunomagnetic separation (IMS) products.

The introduction of Captivate O45 takes to eight the number of products in the Captivate range for the isolation of Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli (STEC) strains associated with food-borne infection.

The Captivate range already covers most of the requirements in pending European regulation and with the addition of Captivate O45 it meets fully the needs of ‘Big Six’ testing for meat products in the USA.

Captivate O45 comprises magnetic particles coated with specific antibody and is intended for the concentration of Escherichia coli O45 from food, animal feed, beverages, pharmaceutical or environmental samples.

IMS is the only specific E. coli O45 isolation process in which a microbiological culture is obtained.

Captivate O45 separates E. coli O45 from background flora in a sample, ensuring that only organisms having O45 antigens are captured. Particle-organism complexes are then easily inoculated to specific microbiological culture media.
