The use of chemical products in the laboratory is a risk from which any user must be protected. Breathing everyday small quantities of chemical products, in the medium or long term, is a health hazard.
The risk can come from vapours but also from powders, which are both widely used in laboratories. Thus, an appropriate hood must be installed in order to bring a high level of safety.
The Powdercap 800 from Erlab is a ventilated hood dedicated to the handling and weighing of powders. Fitted with an HEPA H14 filter, it brings protection to the operator with a filtration efficiency of up to 99.999 per cent for particles as low as 0.3µm. The clean air recycled in the room is in compliance with ISO 5 (E.N. ISO 14 644) quality, which corresponds to the US class 100 (less than 100 0.5µm or larger particles per cubic foot recycled in the room).
The ventilation which is permanently monitored by the airflow velometer is the only solution to create an effective barrier between the user and the powders. With the new generation of balances it can also disturb the accuracy of the extremely precise weighing. An easily accessible on/off switch located inside the enclosure, allows for the air stream to be temporarily stopped so that no turbulences are generated within the enclosure, while the weighing process is performed. u
