Consistent sub-microlitre dispensing

Velocity11, an Agilent technologies company, has announced a technical note that describes how sub microlitre dispensing is achievable on their Bravo and VPrep automated liquid handling platforms using high performance disposable 10µl pipette tips.

The tech note describes experiments that demonstrate the precise, accurate and consistent liquid handling capabilities of the Bravo and VPrep liquid handling platforms in conjunction with a 384 Channel ST Disposable Tip Head. The 384 channel head, combined with Velocity11's 10µl disposable tips, have been proven to be capable of precisely pipetting volumes as low as 0.30 µl, making both the Bravo and VPrep liquid handling platforms among the most accurate liquid handling instruments available. The highly configurable deck and compact footprint of both the Bravo and VPrep liquid handling platforms make them ideal for many applications in the laboratory including compound sample transfers, genomic applications, microplate replication, cell plating and cell-based assays.

The BravoTM Liquid Handling Platform is one of the fastest and most versatile small footprint liquid handling systems currently available. Its space-saving nine plate-position footprint can fit inside a standard laminar flow hood, enabling automated liquid handling for cell-based assays or hazardous reagent handling. The Bravo utilises the proven high-accuracy Velocity11 pipette heads for dispensing from 100 nL to 200 µL in 96, 384 and 1536 well formats. Additionally, it can access a single column or row of any of these plate types utilising the standard 96 and 384 channel heads. With seven different easy-change head types and numerous plate pad options it can be fully customised to meet the needs of a wide range of assays.

The VPrep pipetting station is a highly productive precision pipettor. The VPrep features a choice of interchangeable 96-, 384-, 8- or 16-channel pipetting heads. Eight sliding shelves are arranged on either side of the pipetting head permitting access to the plates, while conserving deck space. The VPrep's has the added capability of accessing all quadrants of 96, 384, and 1536 well microplates. The shelves can be custom fitted with for a variety of applications including: auto-filling reagent reservoirs, and a tip washing station.

Since 1999, Velocity 11 has combined innovative engineering with high standards of quality and customer service, to design and manufacture flexible high-performance automation systems and instruments for applications that include medium to high throughput screening of cell-based and enzyme assays, ELISA, plasmid and sequencing preparation, PCR clean-up, solubility, and more.
