Biomolecular screening conference for Geneva

The Society for Biomolecular Screening annual conference takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, between 11th-15th September.

The meeting has grown to three parallel sessions and while there are still core sessions on new assay technology, there are now sessions related to targets, biomarkers and ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicology). In addition, sessions on medicinal chemistry, genomics, proteomics and in silico predictions have been added.

This reflects not only the integration of HTS into a drug discovery process, but the adoption of techniques and technologies from HTS to other disciplines. HTS, once an independent and somewhat isolated function, has become part of an integrated drug discovery process. SBS has changed to reflect this. It no longer serves only members involved in HTS, but scientists in the entire drug discovery process that includes government and academic scientists.

An SBS spokesmen says: “What will the next decade hold for SBS and drug discovery? If we can look at the past decade for guidance we can say the next will bring continued changes, challenges and successes. We look forward to having this discussion at the 20th annual conference in 2014.“

The Society for Biomolecular Screening is based in Danbury, CT, USA. www.sbsonline.org
