New benchtop centrifuge launched

Laboratory equipment providers Resonant Clinical Solutions and Haier Biomedical have launched a benchtop centrifuge using a natural refrigerant.

“Fresh challenges will continue to emerge across the biomedical sector, and we remain dedicated to working alongside scientists to develop novel solutions that help the industry move forward at pace,” said Haier Biomedical co-CEO Gang Liu.

“In this instance, the partnership with Resonant resulted in a modern, easy-to-use, and regulatory-compliant centrifuge that significantly enhances workflows while reducing the use of harmful greenhouse gases.”

The LX-60T100R is designed to meet the needs of pharmaceutical sponsors and CROs, helping them to prepare for upcoming regulation changes while maintaining safety, reliability and ease of use.

The hydrobarbon-cooled LX-60T100R is designed for clinical trials use, and complies with upcoming legislation further reducing the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases).

Features of the LX-60T100R include:

  • Natural hydrocarbon (R290) refrigerant, lowering environmental impact compared to legacy F-gas systems.
  • Rapid pre-cooling from room temperature to 4°C in approximately five minutes.
  • Speed and rotor profile matched to routine clinical trial workflows, such as blood collection tubes, 15ml and 50ml conical flasks, and bottles up to 100ml.
  • Advanced 7in LCD touchscreen with multi-point touch control that is responsive with gloves, on-screen calibration and configuration, RFID rotor recognition, user log-in controls and storage for over 1,000 programs
  • Built-in safety and reliability monitoring, with vibration and imbalance detection, level check, rotor-life tracking and warning and an ultra-low centre of gravity that limits vibration
  • Quiet, lab-friendly operation, as low as 52dB(A) in fixed-angle rotor configurations, suited to shared lab environments and long processing runs
  • Weighs about 46kg and fits on a standard laboratory bench without special floor mounting, reinforced surfaces or dedicated space
  • Significantly reduces refrigerant GWP from more than 1,400 in legacy F-gas systems to approximately 3, without compromising cooling performance

“Our collaboration with Haier Biomedical on this reimagined natural-refrigerant centrifuge has been pivotal in delivering innovative, globally supported technology that meets F-gas regulatory requirements and market demand, years ahead of mandated deadlines,” said Resonant Clinical Solutions CEO Christophe Berthoux.

“Clinical trial centrifugation workflows will be easier, more flexible, and more environmentally sustainable with this industry-leading instrument.”
