Manufacturing scale-up for fentanyl patch completed

The transdermal patch is designed to prevent fentanyl misuse

Transdermal pharmaceutical company Nutriband and CDMO Kindeva have completed the commercial manufacturing process scale up for a fentanyl patch designed to deter fentanyl misuse.

The Aversa Fentanyl patch Nutriband’s Aversa abuse-deterrent technology with Kindeva’s FDA-approved fentanyl patch.

“Completing the commercial manufacturing scale-up is an important step towards development of a commercially viable product and eventual NDA filing,” said Nutriban CEO Gareth Sheridan.

“This achievement demonstrates the compatibility of the Aversa™ abuse deterrent platform technology with established transdermal patch manufacturing processes.”

Aversa can incorporate aversive agents into transdermal patches to prevent misuse, abuse, diversion and accidental exposure of drugs with abuse potential, including opioids and stimulants.

Manufactured at Kindeva’s transdermal manufacturing facility, the next step is to manufacture clinical supplies and pursue an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the FDA to initiate a human abuse liability clinical study.

Kindeva is currently also partnered with technology healthcare company Rocket Science Health (RSH) to develop an intranasal delivery platform.
