Product prevents lab filters getting saturated
Airflow controller specialist TEL has upgraded its AFA4000/E VAV airflow controller to include a remote organic vapor gas sensor (AFA4000/E/GS).
This filter enables the continuous monitoring of carbon filter saturation levels in fume cupboards, hoods, and cabinets.
This helps avoid the problem of filters getting saturated which stops them protecting against harmful chemicals. Saturated filters therefore inadvertently put a team at risk.
TEL's sensor tracks filter saturation in real time, showing the lab engineer or technician exactly when a filter needs replacing via a dynamic graph. When the filter detects saturation, it triggers an alarm meaning the technician can act quickly, ensuring their lab stays safe and compliant.
A spokesperson for the company said, "We’ve made it our mission to develop world-leading airflow controllers and monitors so that our clients can focus on what matters, keeping their lab safe, compliant, and energy-efficient. With our latest upgrade, we’ve taken lab safety a step further, offering peace of mind with a smart, integrated solution."
Increased protection
Before the upgrade, lab managers had to rely on rough estimates or manufacturer lifespan guidelines to know when to replace filters, according to the company.
TEL’s upgraded solution takes the guesswork out of the equation, it not only detects breakthrough but also tracks the total time the filter has been in use.
In addition, the airflow controller with gas sensor can be retrofitted into a current setup, helping to improve safety and efficiency without the need for expensive overhauls.
A spokesperson for the company added: "This solution saves energy, reduces costs, and prolongs the life of lab equipment by optimising airflow control."
