New food and beverage tests make their debut

Major new analytical tests for the food and drinks industries will make their UK debut  at easyFairs LAB INNOVATIONS on 7th and 8th November at Birmingham’s NEC.  The tests are part of a seminar programme which is being specially devised for show by Campden BRI.

LAB INNOVATIONS, the UK’s brand new laboratory show, also has big name industry players exhibiting such as Bruker, Sartorius, Merck and ELGA plus a top flight conference organised by The Royal Society of Chemistry, so there will be a packed programme for lab personnel working in the UK’s food and beverage sectors.

Campden BRI’s free to attend seminars, focusing on micro and analytical topics, will include one on pathogen testing at which 3M will demonstrate its brand new 3M Molecular Detection System. Based on an innovative combination of two technologies - isothermal DNA amplification and ATP bioluminescence – it delivers highly sensitive results in a simple format.  LAB INNOVATIONS will be a crucial opportunity for technicians to see firsthand the groundbreaking newly launched system of instrument, software and kits.

BioControl will outline a new easy, fast accurate method for the detection of the top 7 Shiga Toxigenic E.coli (STEC), including E.coli O157:H7 as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). BioControl offers the broadest range of proprietary testing platforms for the detection of food-borne pathogens, spoilage organisms and hygiene and HACCP monitoring.

Panalytical will be demonstrating their rapid elemental analysis of infant cereal by Epsilon 3 EDXRF.  Recent studies of the analysis of a series of Infant Cereals for a number of important elements (Na, Mg, P, Cl, K, Ca, Mn, Fe and ZN) show that accurate and reproducible results can be derived from sample in the form of loose powders or pressed pellets. The analysis can be performed in around 15 minutes with LLDs of some of the heavier elements around the 0.2 mg/100g level

Tim Hutton, of Campden BRI, comments on the LAB INNOVATIONS show and says: “This is an unprecedented opportunity for anyone who needs food or drink to be analysed to hear about the wide variety of analytical tests that are available to them. Our experts will be on hand to give practical advice.”

In addition to expert learning opportunities, exhibitors, and the conference programme, LAB INNOVATIONS will play host to a number of special elements. The latest techniques and products will be presented in a live demo area.  There will also be a Lions’ Lair feature, which, taking its inspiration from the hit TV show Dragons’ Den, will see exhibitors pitch their most innovative products and concepts to a panel of experts.

The show is being supported by Royal Society of Chemistry, Gambica, Campden BRI, the Institute of Measurement and Control, the Society of Biology, the British Pharmacological Society, ELRIG and the UK Science Park Association
